Irma Reyes Citizen Diplomacy Scholarship

The Irma Reyes Citizen Diplomacy Scholarship was established in 2019 to honor the work, support, and dedication of Ms. Irma Reyes to SACIV for over thirty years. Ms. Reyes founded SACIV in 1989 and has served twice as the Executive Director of the organization, as well as Chair of the Board of Directors for multiple terms. The scholarship aims to support the education of students interested in pursuing an international related degree.

The award amount is $2,000, with $1,000 funded by SACIV and a matching $1,000 from a local university in San Antonio. The University of the Incarnate Word (UIW) was the first university to provide this donation with two awards in 2020. In 2021, St. Mary’s University made this contribution. In 2022, the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) funded the scholarship. And in 2023, Alamo Colleges District supported the scholarship.

To be eligible for consideration of the scholarship, applicants must be interested in pursuing an international related degree and have a GPA of at least 3.0. The required application materials include an application form, a letter of recommendation, an office transcript of acceptance letter from the local university, and an essay describing why it is important to support citizen diplomacy within their community and what they have learned about themselves as a result of their community service work.
