Global Ties U.S. is a nation-wide organization that promotes Citizen Diplomacy. The San Antonio Council for International Visitors is a member of the Global Ties U.S. network.

Citizen Diplomacy is the concept that average citizens can support their government by serving as positive representatives of our country to foreign representatives visiting the U.S. 

​

We are all familiar with National Diplomacy; where government representatives—like diplomats and ambassadors—shape U.S. foreign relations by meeting with representatives from other countries. Citizen Diplomacy is the concept that the average U.S. Citizen is just as important to helping shape U.S. foreign relations as career diplomats. Citizen diplomats can be students, teachers, athletes, artists, business people, humanitarians, tourists, etc.

You, too, can be a Citizen Diplomat, and as such, it would be your function to engage foreign nationals who are visiting the United States to educate them about our culture, endear them to our way of life and people, and build meaningful and peaceful bonds between our countries.

The San Antonio Council for International Visitors is part of the Global Ties U.S. network of Citizen Diplomat organizations. Through the Global Ties U.S. Network, 90 major cities across the United States are connected to the world through international exchange programs that welcome foreign scientists, journalists, educators, business people, military, government officials, etc.

We do this so that we might strengthen our international relationships by fostering connections that break down borders, shatter stereotypes, and create a more peaceful, prosperous world.

When our Citizen Diplomats welcome foreign visitors to San Antonio, we not only help build peace and national security, we enrich our community by contributing to local businesses, attracting potential investment, and we help to promote San Antonio, Texas, as an influential international city.
